The Course Venue: St George's Hospital, London

The Course is held in the Cardiothoracic Department, Atkinson Morley Wing, St George’s Hospital, London

St George's Hospital was originally founded in 1787 and located at Hyde Park Corner, in the centre of London. In 1981 it relocated to Tooting, in S-W London, approximately 15 km from the city centre. The site contains a large hospital with 1,000 acute medical and surgical beds, an undergraduate medical school with over 1,000 students, and extensive research facilities.

The Cardiothoracic Unit is one of the largest in the UK, offering the full range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures related to adult cardiology. The department has recently moved into a new building, which houses all Cardiothoracic and Neurology services.

There are four cardiothoracic operating theatres, and a 15-bed intensive care unit. Lectures take place in the department seminar room. TOE was introduced in 1988, we hosted the first UK meeting on this topic in 1989, and have been actively involved in teaching the technique ever since, both through both formal courses and informal small-group 'hands-on' teaching.

The hospital is about 5 minutes' walk from Tooting Broadway Underground station on the Northern Line. Journey time from Central London is 35 minutes. It is also served by a number of bus routes. Suburban and Main Line trains run from Wimbledon, about 4 km distant by bus or taxi.

Accommodation can be provided either in Central London, or in local smaller hotels.
